Title of Honorary Academician to Kim Jong Il

Pyongyang, April 16 (KCNA) -- A ceremony of conveying the title of honorary academician of the International Academy of Social Sciences presented by the Russian International Charity Fund "Protectors of Arts for the Century" to Kim Jong Il was held at the Mansudae Assembly Hall Sunday.
Present there were Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, Kang Nung Su, minister of Culture, Mun Jae Chol, acting chairman of the Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries, Kung Sok Ung, vice-minister of Foreign Affairs, and officials concerned.
On hand were a delegation of the Fund "Protectors of Arts for the Century" led by President Oleg Oleinik, a delegation of the Russia-DPRK friendship parliamentary group of the State Duma of Russia led by Chairman Chilgichi Chimit Ondar, and Russian Ambassador to the DPRK Valery Sukhinin.
Chairman of the Experts Council of the fund Yuri Kovelenov made a speech there.
Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and supreme commander of the Korean People's Army, has made a great contribution to the independent and creative development of humankind and ensuring global peace, he said, praising him as an outstanding statesman recognized by the world for his high international prestige.
Kim Jong Il received the highest order and honorary titles of the fund for several times, he said, referring to the decision made by the Standing Committee of the International Academy of Social Sciences to confer the title of honorary academician on him on the occasion of his birthday this year.
Oleg Oleinik spoke next.
The title of honorary academician presented to Kim Jong Il is in high recognition of the exploits he has performed for the victory of the great Juche idea, he said, stressing:
Kim Jong Il has made an immortal contribution to the development of friendly relations between the peoples of Russia and the DPRK.
The title, costume and badges of academician to Kim Jong Il were conveyed to Kim Yong Nam at the ceremony.
